 Magda van der Walt - Radiographer from BloemfonteinI'm a Radiographer from Bloemfontein, Free State, in South Africa. I am employed as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in Wellington, NZ. After receiving a phone call from Alison at Accent Health Recruitment in May 2007, our life as we knew it, changed for ever! Alison informed me about an available position and explained to me what the process of relocation and immigration would entail. She continued to assist me through the process of organizing my documentation and answered all my questions meticulously. Ali suggested that I post my application for registration to the MRT Board as soon as possible, which I did on the 16th of August 2007.
An email from Ali brought the good news of the much awaited registration from the MRT Board around the 7th of September 2007 (my birthday)!
Ali was the focus point of my emails and she answered every one of them! Following her clear instructions, we submitted an online Expression of Interest the 17th of August 2007 and received the invitation to Apply for Residence the 14th of September 2007.
Ali assisted me in preparing for the interview that secured a permanent job at the Wellington Hospital, Nuclear Medicine Department.
Our application and relevant documentation was posted to the London Branch on the 9th of October 2007 and the waiting commenced. Ali was a stronghold during this period, always reassuring me and staying calm and focused!
As a family we decided that I should travel to NZ with a Work Visa to start in my new job at the 4th of November 2007 while we wait for the Residence to be approved.
Suddenly I was booking flights, packing suitcases and greeting family! Alison and the team at Accent made me feel welcome on arrival in NZ and I had the pleasure of meeting Prue and Helen in Wellington.
Our application for Residence was finally approved in February and my family is on their way!
Alison and the team at Accent Health always stayed in touch - to me they have become friends. Especially Alison, whom I regard as dear and trusted, after all, she shared my fears and hopes and all those trying times of waiting!
The transition for me was a smooth one and I am fortunate to enjoy the wonderful company of my colleagues at work! Nuclear Medicine is more that an occupation, it is a passion for me and it turned out to be a stronghold for me in the period without my family. Colleagues support me, lift my spirit on days when I miss my family and introduce me to the ordinary, every day Kiwi living! I have met so many new people from different cultures, made new friends and still stare in amazement at the beauty of my surroundings!
