Vicky Eldridge, Radiographer from United KingdomHi my name is Vicky Eldridge. I have been in New Zealand for three months now and I am here working as a radiographer in Christchurch. I met ACCENT at the New Zealand Expo conference in London when I was at the end of my tether trying to get to New Zealand. Originally I had made the frustrating mistake of paying a UK immigration consultant . . . what a waste of time and money!! I was so pleased to meet a happy and understanding face and to come away confident I was going to achieve my goal to work in Christchurch, New Zealand.
After meeting Prudence at the conference I arranged a video interview with her a few days later and this gave us the opportunity to brainstorm exactly what I was wanting to achieve and expect when I got to the other side of the world. Learning about registration for my job, immigration, accommodation, flights and all the other little things you think about! There was a lot of too-ing and fro-ing with emails, but answers to all my silly questions where returned very promptly. It took a couple of months before the position I was wanting became available and everything moved quickly from there.
Prudence was my consultant for recruitment and she followed through with everything we discussed, the best thing was that she was a nurse and understood my occupation and knew what I wanted. She picked me up at the airport, found me a place to stay and also introduced me to people.
From there things have continued to get better and more exciting! I have got myself a wee little runabout car (the buses are good here but don't forget, no trains!) and today have put an offer on a house :-). I never thought the day would come when someone persuaded me to go to a rugby match - I didn't even know who the Lions where when I got here!! But shamefully I will admit I am off my second match this Saturday - well it is the final of the super 12s against Australia!!!
It is starting to get cooler - but I still work to live and am out and about the whole time. Its amazing how quickly you get to know so many people here.
The things I love about here are; the ''small'' town feel to Christchurch city; you can park in the middle of the city; people are so friendly and actually talk to you in shops instead of grunting at you as they do in England!!; they have lovely big fresh fruit and vegetable shops that sell lots of strange things to try out!; phone calls are cheap to the UK and the rugby is good (never thought I would say that!!). Not so good things; books are expensive; it gets very smoggy in the winter; and they don't have central heating or insulation in kiwi houses!!
Good luck you will love it here and not regret it.

Peg Miller, Psychiatrist from New York, AmericaI am high up, sitting on a rock on Crater Rim Trail, alone with the wind, the scent of exotic plants, birds singing and the views. There is an incredible view in every direction. Down below me is Lytellton Harbour. I can see it flow into the Pacific Ocean, aqua transforming into deep blue. ...
