The Waikato region on the western side of New Zealand's North Island includes the country's 7th largest city, Hamilton and the picturesque towns of Cambridge, Waikato River, Raglan, Huntly, Matamata, Waitomo, Tokoroa, Te Awamutu and Morrinsville. The centre of the region is about 90 minutes from Auckland.
Employing more than 5,800 people, the Waikato District Health Board funds and provides hospital and health services to more than 360,000 people living at the northern tip of the Coromandel Peninsula to the south of Taumarunui, and from Raglan in the west to Waihi in the east. Up to 40% of the population live in rural areas.
The majority of Waikato DHB's staff is employed in Health Waikato, providing an extensive range of inpatient and community-based health services across critical care, surgery, medicine, oncology, women's health, child and adolescent health, older persons and rehabilitation, mental health, population health and related support services.
