The Wairarapa area is located on the southern most corner of New Zealand's North Island and includes the towns of Featherston, Greytown and Martinborough. Its boundaries run from Cape Palliser to Mount Bruce and the Rimutaka and Tararua ranges to the Coast. Healthcare services are provided for about 40,000 people by the Wairarapa District Healthboard, its subsidiary Biomed, St John and the Selena Sutherland Private Hospital.
The 92-bed Wairarapa Hospital is a teaching hospital provides a full range of secondary medical, obstetric, pediatric, assessment and rehabilitation for young and older adults, high dependency care and mental health. Community-based services are also provided including public health, district nursing, midwifery care, physiotherapy and clinics for asthma and diabetes.
