Southland is a natural playground, renowned for its unmatched beauty. Nature and wildlife are abundant, and you can explore dramatic scenery from pristine rainforests to rugged coastlines. There are numerous activities to enjoy, and the region is known for its world-famous Bluff oysters and cheese rolls! Invercargill is the main centre, it’s easy to navigate around the wide streets. New Zealand’s southernmost city has plenty of character and the people are known for their warm and friendly hearts.

Southland has a population of just over 100,000. Good healthcare services are available, and facilities include both public and private hospitals in Invercargill and Gore. Southlands health care is mainly (but not only) provided by the Te Whatu Ora -Southern (formerly Southern District Health Board).

Primary health care is the first point of contact with the medical sector for most of the region and provides services such as: ambulances, after hour surgeries, child health, dentists, disability services, hospices, men's health, mental health, and women's health services (gynaecology and maternity).

Living in Southland is an outdoor enthusiast’s heaven. Southland is home to five of the ten ‘New Zealand Great Walks’, and ‘The Southern Scenic Route’ which is ranked as one of the top 10 drives of the world. If you are a garden lover, you must see Queens Park and its 80 hectares of tree-lined walkways and diverse gardens. Wildlife viewing, short walks, mountain biking, surfing, fishing, hunting, boating, camping, tramping, and caving, plus the cosy Southland community – making it an ideal place to set up life for both individuals and families! If you want to find everything ‘New Zealand’ in one spot, Southland is the place to be!
