Melissa - Registered Nurse

My name is Melissa, I am a Registered Nurse – Diabetes. I came to NZ in June 2021 from Malaysia/Singapore. The process to come to NZ took me 2 years.

The easiest part of the process was having Prudence help in interview and CV preparation. The most challenging part of the process was to obtain an interview from the hospital during the peak of Covid-19 lockdown and border closure in NZ. Prudence submitted my CV again after trying for a year (during Covid) and I received a job offer with the diabetes service shortly after the interview.

My first impressions of New Zealand were that it was beautiful outdoor and friendly neighbourhood. I specifically like the peaceful and slow-paced life. I think the best parts of NZ are the work/life balance and understanding employers. The area I live in is a safe and quiet neighbourhood with easy access to amenities and parks.

What I miss the most is affordable Malaysian/Singaporean hawker food. Being in a Malaysian Facebook group helps to connect and attend gatherings during traditional festive celebrations such as Malaysia Day, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya etc.

I plan to visit the Coromandel - hot sand beach, the cove.

My advice if you are planning to come to NZ is to be prepared to experience four seasons in a day.

The work/life balance has absolutely made a difference to my life!

Thank you, Prudence, for not giving up on me finding the perfect job match for my area of interest.
